About Compress Image

Compress Image makes your pictures smaller so pages load faster and files are easier to send. Add as many JPG, PNG or WebP images as you like, pick Low, Medium, High or Extreme, and download the results. Every file keeps its type, and you get a single ZIP when you compress several.

JPG and WebP are compressed by lowering their quality. PNG is lossless, so its colours are reduced to a smaller palette instead, which keeps transparency. At High and Extreme, very large images are also scaled down. If a file would end up larger, the original is returned.

Your images never leave your device: the work happens in your browser, with no upload and no account. It is free and adds no watermark.

How to compress images

  1. Add one or more JPG, PNG or WebP images.
  2. Choose Low, Medium, High or Extreme.
  3. Compress, then download the image or the ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Which image types can I compress?

JPG, PNG and WebP. Each file stays the same type, so a PNG is still a PNG.

What do Low, Medium, High and Extreme mean?

Low keeps almost all the detail. Medium is a good balance for websites and sharing. High gives much smaller files, and Extreme the smallest, with visible loss. High and Extreme also scale down images longer than 2560 and 1600 pixels.

Can I compress many images at once?

Yes. Add them all, compress once, and download a single ZIP. One image downloads as the image itself.

How is a PNG made smaller?

PNG is lossless, so the colours are reduced to a smaller palette and the image is saved as an indexed PNG. Transparency is kept.

Can the result be bigger than the original?

No. If compressing would make a file larger, you get the original file back.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser and the images never leave your device.
